Happy Birthday, Mom!

Friday was my mom's birthday and I created this little card for her:

The purple background is a print from playing with my gelli plate.  I did a slight ombre on some glossy cardstock with alcohol ink and stamped the image onto that.  Matted the imaged and added some dazzle border stickers.

For the inside, I used a strip of that same paper with one of the smaller dazzle strips.  Stamped the image and sentiment in a matching ink.

Custom Coupon Book

I've been using one of those dollar store accordion folders to store coupons and I find myself never using them.  The grocery list and coupons never seem to stay together.  I told myself I needed a better system, but never found one.  Then I saw this.  I've had a disc bound notebook for years and love it.  I can easily move my to do lists around without ending up with a bunch of loose papers.

I started with a notebook...

I really like the Martha Stewart one that was used on my inspirational find, but it was a little larger than I would have liked.  This one is about 4 x 5.5 and fits nicely inside my purse.

Next I decided that I didn't want just plain old envelopes inside so I broke out my envelope punch board and some pretty paper paper.  I found the size that I liked best and made some envelopes.

As I was putting all of the envelopes together, I decided that the cover of the notebook needed something - a little color.  So I grabbed some Copics that matched the colors from the envelopes and colored the cover.  Love it!

Back to the envelopes.  I decided I didn't really need dividers like the inspiration notebook, so I decided to just label the envelopes.  I printed out the category names I wanted onto some sticky back paper and punched them out with a label punch.

Once they were punch, I attached them to the envelopes and then added everything into the notebook.

I left the sheets of paper in there between the envelopes to make shopping lists on so now they'll stay together.

The biggest expense of this whole project was the punch needed to get everything to fit the discs. I was really hesitant at first but then I realized, I've been using one of these notebooks for years and now I could customize the paper I'm writing on (like using the gelli print papers I've been making!).  And I realized it was a great way to add larger coupons to the notebook - this way the envelope wouldn't get too full and tear too soon, although I did use some pretty hefty paper so hopefully that won't happen!

I'm quite happy with how it turned out.  I'm feeling more organized already!

Thanks for stopping by.  Next week I should have another card to share.

House Mouse x 3

We had a House Mouse Copic class at Farmhouse Memories this weekend.  I had lots of fun coloring with the ladies.  The official card for the class used the Diva Shopper stamp -

Then we each had the First Aid stamp to play with.  I finished up the card today using some left over paper from the class card.  The sentiment is a SRM sticker that I put on some of the scrap paper (I love that they're clear so I can easily customize them!)

Lastly, June shared an extra image of the Bunny Luv stamp with me.  Instead of using Copics for this one, I used my Prismacolor pencils to color them in.  And the SRM sticker sheet I had used on the last card was still sitting on my desk and happened to have a 'sending HUGS' sticker... perfect!

And that's my crafty fun for the weekend!

Brrr-fect

Today I'm playing along with the latest Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge.  This week is a picture perfect challenge.  Here's the inspiration photo:

When I looked at the picture, I immediately thought a love card would be the way to go (because it's a wedding cake ;)).  I also took the color palette for inspiration and the scalloped square topper.  With all of that, I came up with...

My card is 4 1/4" square on a dark grey card base.  One thing I'm trying to keep up with this year is doing something with the inside of he cards as I make them.  (Fingers crossed I can keep up with that this year!) So here's the inside -

I do love that little penguin!

Winter Thinking

Well we got a little more snow today and during my stamp reorganizing I found a set that I haven't used much... Anya Scarves.  So I was inspired!!

I stamped and colored her with some copics.  I paper pieced her hat, scarf, gloves, and sweater.  I airbrushed the aqua around her and pierced around the frame instead of matting her onto another piece of cardstock.  Layered some pattern papers on the stamped background then popped the main image on some foam tape after adding some ribbon.  To finish it off, I added some matching candy buttons.  I loooove the color combo!

Since I was using a dark card base, I wanted to make sure the inside had an easy space to write a message or stamp a sentiment once I find a use for the card, so I mocked the front layout but rotated it to go horizontal instead.

And here's a close up of the image.  I added some shading to the paper pieced pieces with my copics.  I love how that added some more dimension to her.

Since I was inspired by our cold/snowy/icy weather, I'm playing along with the Simon Wednesday Challenge - Ice Inspiration.

Thanks for stopping by.

Lucky Stars

I've been working on reorganizing my stamps - the shelves that I had them on didn't hold them all from all of these years of collecting them!  I needed to take a break and remembered these foam stars that I bought over the weekend and thought it would be perfect for a super quick card and a much needed break.

I through some glitter on the entire sheet of foam stars and then picked the ones that I wanted to use.  When I bought them, I already knew which sentiment stamp set I'd be using  so I didn't have to take to long to figure that out.  Here's what I came up with -

Super quick and easy - stamp the sentiment, emboss, place stars around, round a corner.  Done!  It was almost too quick and I had stars left so, what the heck, how about another one ;)

I chose another stamp from the same set and stamped it towards the top, embossed it, added three stripes of scortape, covered them with glitter, placed the stars around, round the corners.  Another quick and simple card!

I used my new 3D foam stars and Lucky Stars stamp set and Simon Says Stamp is have a 'Something New' Challenge... very convenient!

A little art journaling to end the year

I'm not sure how I managed, but I got not one, but TWO art journal pages done this weekend... I was on a roll! :)

The first one I kept pretty simple - black gesso, three stamp sets, some versamark ink, scraps of black paper and some pearl ex powders.

I love how shimmery the powders are.  This close up can't do them justice!

Since it's pretty shimmery, I'm throwing in to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Bling it On.

The next page I got done has a little more to it, but I kind of love how it turned out :)

I used a piece of tissue paper that I got and thought it was cute so I held on to it (it was probably something that was used to wrap something I purchased, but I've had it for a while now, so who knows!)  I added a light layer of gray paint over it.  Then masked off the third quarter and painted that piece teal.  I added a little dimension with some croco in bronze and a chevron stencil.

The girls are the Prima doll stamp that I stamped four times and colored with my Copics.  Their dresses are pieces from some 6x6 paper pads I have in my stash.  I finished it all off with some Pitt Brush Pens and the glittery stickers for the saying.

I'm feeling quite accomplished this weekend.  Now if only I could direct some of that energy towards house hold chores ;)
